I would like tell you about three students who had transferred to Brito from other schools.
One day, I received a phone call from a well-meaning acquaintance. “Principal Pun, I advise you not to accept this student.” His reason was that the student had been unruly, and had disciplinary problems at his/her current school. We took him in nevertheless, and have since observed that he/she has matured over time, and has developed a positive change in attitude.
And on a separate day, I received another phone call from another acquaintance. “Principal, please help this student. His current school wants him/her to repeat his/her year. They question his/her academic progress because of the poor grades. We indeed accepted him/her. The grades have since improved, and this student will be returning to his/her original school next term.
The third phone call I received was a request to admit a student on a “temporary” basis –to allow him/her to achieve better academic results before returning to his/her original school. We likewise accommodated this request. This student readily took to his/her new environment at Brito, and developed a new interest in learning. In this particular case, the student chose to remain with us.
We should follow the concept “To accept all without pre-judgment” - whether it relates to how we treat the very young, or to our perception of a student, to the way we function in society, and to our and care for thecommunity. This is our belief.
Our Father in Heaven created each one of us with unique characteristics. As long as we are able to develop in a suitable environment, are given a second chance, we will be able to achieve a break through and find our place in this world.
~~~words of encouragement to the students of Brito School.
